Well the boat and cruising is on hold.
It has taken sometime for me to qualify for ChampVA through the
Dept of Veterans Affairs. For those that don't know what ChampVA is it
medical coverage for the spouse of a 100% disable veteran. The spouse
can use it like medicaid or if there is a VA hospital in your area that
will take ChampVA all medical and meds are free.
Lisa is signed up and here is the rest of the story.
Lisa has been in much pain and has lost most of her ability to
walk. After a couple of appointments here is what the VA is going to do.
Quote for Lisa's facebook.
Well Monday they are going to screw my head back on. Tuesday I
had a CT scan and a MRI. On the way home got a call to return to ER. 3
hours at the ER and back in the morning to meet with Neuro Surgeon. He
told us that if I don't have the surgery by the time I turned 55 (I'm
54) I would be living the rest of my life in a wheel chair. There is a
risk but well worth the chance. They will remove bone in my spine at the
base of my neck re aline everything and screw me back together. I'll
have to turn my body to turn my head. Not sure how long I'll be in the
VA hospital or the recovery time. Only thing I'm worried about is them
screwing my head on backwards.
End quote.
I got a call today that the VA will furnish us a motel Sunday
night as her surgery is at 0600 Monday. They also said if she is in a
private room I could stay with her if not then they are trying to get me
in a room at the Fisher House.
The VA in San Antonio would have never done this for us. It took
18 months from them to find my cancer and Houston two weeks to find out
what was wrong with Lisa. We are treated so nice in Houston that it is a
shock compared to San Antonio.
Boating will be off for a while but we still plan to be at BEER even if Lisa has to use her walker or a wheel chair.
